The Beginning of the Golden Type Collective

2020 was a weird year for everyone. No one could have predicted that what started out as an awesome six week vacation full of banana bread and Schitt’s Creek would turn into an entire year of isolation, anxiety, and fear. And it was in the midst of a pandemic that The Golden Type Collective was born.

But let’s go back a few years. My artistic pursuits started in 2010 - I graduated from high school and moved to Charleston, SC. I was unsure of what exactly I wanted to be when I grew up (as most teenagers are; and honestly, sometimes I’m still unsure) but I finally settled on studying art. All kinds. I studied sculpture, photography, and painting. And I couldn’t decide which I loved most. So I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art - with no concentration. Somehow, this seems to track with my current art journey.

And then, I got married. I moved to Clemson, SC. And I got a job as a barista.

After years of being a barista (originally to support my husband while he finished school, and then as a way to cope with some anxiety after moving across the country), Geddings and I decided to reevaluate some areas of our life - mostly, my job.

Geddings has always been my biggest cheerleader, but it wasn’t until our roommates (we were over isolation, and nothing about 2020 is normal anyways) convinced me that my gifts and talents weren’t being used to their full potential and that I should pursue art.

After many meetings with my colleagues (i.e., our roommates), I discovered a few things:
1. I had a lot of creative outlets
2. I couldn’t pick just one.
3. I had literally no idea what I was doing.

So naturally, I quit my job and began creating full time! The Golden Type Collective was born!

And the rest is history

So here I am, just making things and calling them a collective.
I hope they bring you joy as you see them, because making
them sure brought me joy!
